While there are disclaimers saying the hammer may not be exactly as shown, the hammer I got isn't even a half dome. The surface is flat (and uneven) which causes it to leave marks. In addition to that, the hammer is quite obviously very cheaply made and I can't see it holding up very well in the long term - not that I intend to find out as I am returning it. The head, which was already rusty when received, is held on by one very small pin and the wood feels and looks very cheap - especially compared to the picture on Amazon which makes it look like good quality stained and finished wood. If I saw a hammer of the same poor quality and craftsmanship in a store it would be laughable for it to sell for more than a few dollars.Customer Review: Not usable

Mine came with a deffect. A crack in the poll that also affected the face of the hammer. Apparently the molding process was not done verly cleanly. I refuse to believe that the person who was polishing the face did not notice it.
Essentially the hammer is unusable. Sending it back considering the shipping hassle makes little sense, so this purchase was a complete waste.

I bought this hammer just to flatten/strenghten jewelry wire and it works just fine for that. I like it more than another one I purchased from Jewelry Suppliers because that one looked like it was going to fall apart after a few uses. What can I say, really? It's a hammer!
It is smaller and MUCH lighter in weight than I expected, which makes shaping metal with it impossible. It seems to flatten thin wire fine, but I had intended to use it for heavier metals like sheet brass, and the head is just is not hefty enough to do that.
The handle of the hammer I received is an unstained light color, and the metal was not as smoothly finished as the picture shows. It looks like something one would buy at a discount tool store.
If you are looking for a lightweight hammer, this would work for you. if you need something with more pounding authority, look elsewhere.

I got this mainly for the price. I was looking for a hammer to use in tapping texture stamps and letter stamps into sheet silver and it works great for that. I would assume that it would flatten jewelry wire ok too. It is small (obviously) and not made to move lots of metal. It doesn't look like the photo - in the photo the head looks flatter and the ball end looks like a ball. The face of mine is gently domed and the ball end is domed too (not really ball shaped). The wooden handle is also much lighter in color than the hammer pictured. The ball end is nicely polished while the face has some minor scratches in it - which didn't bother me as I only got it to hammer on metal stamps. If you wanted to dress it yourself with sandpapers and make it perfectly smooth it wouldn't be too difficult as the scratches are very minor. The head is attached well (though I've only had it a month - we will see in time if it stays good and tight). All in all an attractive little hammer for the price.
